Dr. Javaid Rehman is the third and current Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran since the re-establishment of the mandate by the Human Rights Council. He was appointed on the 6th of July, 2018 and began serving in this role on the 13th of July, 2018.
Dr. Rehman is a Professor of International Human Rights Law and Muslim Constitutionalism at Brunel University, London. Dr. Rehman teaches human rights law and Islamic law and continues to publish extensively on international human rights law, Islamic law and constitutional practices of Muslim majority States. As a human rights lawyer, Dr. Rehman has also provided legal opinions in different high-profile cases in several jurisdictions.
