Asma Jahangir was the second Special Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council of the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran since the re-establishment of the mandate by the Human Rights Council.
Ms. Jahangir was elected as President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and as Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.
Ms. Jahangir served in her role from September 30, 2016 until her passing on February 11, 2018.

In accordance with the decision of the Human Rights Council, the Coordination Committee of Special Procedures transmitted the report that the Special Rapporteur shared with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Human Rights Council. During its thirty-third session, the Human Rights Council appointed Asma Jahangir as Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The present report outlines the activities carried out by the Special Rapporteur since the issuance of her first report to the Council (A/HRC/34/65), examines ongoing issues and presents some of the most recent and pressing developments in the area of human rights in the country.

The present report is submitted to the Human Rights Council pursuant to resolution 31/19. The report communicates developments in the human rights situation of the Islamic Republic of Iran that have transpired since the submission of the report of the former Special Rapporteur to the 71st session of the General Assembly in October 2016.
